Andy Torkelson helps partners address complex problems in areas including vaccine allocation, country product preferences, and the quantifiable impact of health interventions. A data scientist with a background in statistical analysis, machine learning, and WASH, he served as project lead for the COVAX Covid-19 vaccine allocation tool, led product preferences analyses for rotavirus and Covid-19 vaccines, and supported CEPI-backed analyses of the health and economic impacts of Lassa fever vaccination campaigns in West Africa.  Andy sits on the board of Global Water Labs, a nonprofit seeking to provide clean water in resource-constrained settings through technological innovation. Before joining Linksbridge, he worked as a data scientist and environmental engineer, and he served as a commissioner on a municipal environmental advisory board in Berkeley, California. He holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and a master’s and Ph.D. in environmental engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, where he focused on water filtration and pathogens. He’s an author of peer-reviewed work on Covid vaccine allocation (in the Oxford Review of Economic Policy), Lassa vaccination impact (Nature Medicine), water filtration (Journal of Applied Microbiology), and other topics.
